Cequint Names Weller President
Former RIM Executive Joins Highly Experienced Management Team
SEATTLE, WA – Oct. 19, 2007 – Scott Weller has been named president of Cequint, Inc., the leading developer of Caller ID technology for wireless phones.
Weller most recently spent 5+ years at Research in Motion, managing RIM’s commercial relationship and then national retail and channel sales with at&t, Blackberry’s largest carrier sales partner. Prior to that, Weller was with Sony/Qualcomm launching CDMA technology in North America before becoming a founding member of Wireless Knowledge, a Qualcomm/Microsoft joint venture that developed enterprise wireless services. Weller began his career in mobility managing marketing for Centel Cellular’s mid-Atlantic region before the company was acquired by Sprint.
“Scott brings to the table smarts, savvy and years of experience working the frontlines of the wireless industry; he could be working anywhere he wants,” said Cequint CEO Rick Hennessey. “So it says a lot that Scott chose to join Cequint. We’re now working with every major OEM to enable City ID for our carrier partners and attracting top-tier talent from both the wireless and caller ID industries. His decision to come on board not only validates our unique business model – it will speed our carrier and manufacturer efforts.”
Cequint is the creator of City ID, a patented embedded call feature that helps identify unknown callers by displaying the city and state assigned to virtually any phone number issued in North America. Alltel Wireless, the first U.S. carrier to license City ID, has embedded the application on its new LG AX275 handset and will make City ID available on additional Alltel phones as they are introduced.
“Sometimes the simplest ideas add the most value to the greatest potential market. There’s no such thing as a learning curve for City ID – it is useful out-of-the-box to 100% of mobile subscribers, and carriers can launch this enhanced Caller ID feature without any additional capital expense,” Weller said. “It’s really unique to be able to offer operators an entirely new category of proven feature revenue without requiring any new infrastructure. Call screening products have earned landline carriers hundreds of millions in revenue – now it’s time for wireless.”
